Song

Let’s hear it for the new hydration station in Greenville Dining Hall. Fruit in the H2O. Watery goodness that makes me want to sing (to the tune of “Conjunction Junction”):

Hydration station, excites Hose Nation.
Putting fruit in the water for drinking.
Hydration station deserves notation.
Healthy liquids that help our thinking.”

P.S. I wanted to use the word “gyration” but couldn’t make it work. I am sorry.

Thanks to my friend Hal Milam for creating this awesome song.

Genesis 2

God said:

You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die. (v16-17)

It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (v 18)

Commentary:

Verse 1 says that both the heavens and earth were completed.  Anything that is “discovered” or “invented” is simply a part of the vast array God has already placed here. Verse 3 says that God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because He rested from all the work of creating He had done.  Back at verse 2, the NIV has a note that says the word rested could also have been translated as ceased.  Tuck away that connection somewhere in your brain; when we start talking about Sabbaths, that connection might have something significant to add to the discussion.

In verser 4 we get a different perspective as to how God created the heavens and the earth.  This account uses the words “LORD God” instead of “God”.  Take a look at verses 4-7, it says that God made the streams come up from the earth in part because there was no man to work the ground.  Wow, we are barely into the second chapter of the bible and the word “work” has already made an appearance.  Interesting.  Verse 7 says God formed man from the dust of the earth and that He breathed life into him.  Verse 8: God planted a garden.  Who ever said God wasn’t GREEN?!  Verses 10-13 have a description of different waterways, take a look at the map below.

Looking for a good map…

Shout Out – PRTC

Just wanted to give a shout out for the folks over at PRTC who provide this county with wonderful cell coverage (all things considered, it is AT&T service…), including 3G in lots of areas with more coming soon.  Also, their internet is superb.  Thanks for all your hard work.

Rework – 37Signals

Just finished reading Rework by 37Signals.  Interesting book, fast passed read talking about the different ways in which companies mistakenly emulate other companies.  Any business owner that is not yet satisfied with their business should definitely read it at your easiest convenience.

Israel

I had the privilege of going to Israel in 2009.  It was a wonderful trip with several good friends from college.  Today, my prayer is that this nation will once again step forward and support the state of Israel.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

How God Answers Prayer

Seven Ways God Answers Prayer

  1. Yes
  2. More
  3. Before we ask
  4. No
  5. Wait
  6. Be more specific
  7. More of Himself

Yes

God answers our prayers with a yes.

More

God answers our prayers with something better than what we prayed for.

Before We Ask

God answers our prayer even before we ask it of Him

No

God says no.

Wait

God tells us to wait. It’s not quite the right time for him to bless us in that particular way.

Be More Specific

God bless the whole world. I already have my child, I sent Jesus to redeem you from your sins. I love you, and I want to bless you, but I want to do it so that only I can receive the credit for it. Ask me sometime more specific so that I can showcase my glory

More of Himself

Sometimes God gives us more of Himself. What better gift could we receive?

Stop and Let Me Tell You

Stop; and let me tell you, what the Lord has done for me.

Stop, and let me tell you, what the Lord has done for me.

He forgave my sin and He saved my soul,

He cleansed my heart and He made me whole.

Stop, and let me tell you, what the Lord has done for me.

A Sampling of Quotes

Regarding preachers: Were you sent, or did you just went?

The Lords of the Earth

My friend Cody Watson told me about this book by Don Richardson, The Lords of the Earth.  It tells the story of how the Yali people in Irian Jaya came to be followers of Christ Jesus.  The book is not a fast page turning book, but it is interesting and gives you a different perspective on how some people live.  If you’re looking for a book, this one is not a bad choice.
